“Clump, clump, clump!”
The pots came tumbling down from the cabinet, crashing onto the floor.
Leah froze for a moment.
Of all days, today was definitely not the day she needed one more thing to deal with.
Her mind was already crowded with deadlines, responsibilities, unanswered messages, and the never-ending list of things waiting to be done. Somewhere between trying to keep up with life and trying to hold everything together, she had forgotten something.
Something important.
“Ugh…” she sighed, staring at the mess before her.
“You know what? I’ll just leave it for now.”
But as she turned away, she felt a gentle nudge in her spirit.
A familiar one.
She knew exactly what it was.
God was calling her back.
She hadn’t sat with Him in days.
And suddenly, she wondered if perhaps the reason everything felt so noisy was because she had been trying to navigate the noise without first becoming still before Him.
She picked up her Bible.
As she opened it, her eyes fell on John 15:4:
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
— John 15:4 (KJV)
Abide.
She paused.
It wasn't a command to do more. It was an invitation to remain.
To stay close.
To make her home in Him.
Leah realized that perhaps she had been so busy trying to bear fruit that she had forgotten to abide in the Vine.
Because a branch cannot produce fruit by struggling harder. It bears fruit by remaining connected to the source of its life.
And maybe that's the reminder you and I need too.
You can be busy and still be drifting.
You can accomplish so much and still be running on empty.
You can have a full schedule and an untouched Bible.
But beloved, never get so busy with life that you become too busy for the One who gave you life.
Come back.
Sit with Him.
Be still with Him.
Abide.
Because when we remain in Him, fruitfulness becomes the overflow, not the pursuit. 🤍
